when i went through yoga teacher training in the fall of 2015, my whole concept of weird "hippy-dippy" wellness changed drastically.
i like to think i have always been open to how people take care of themselves and curious about a more natural path, but after spending 200 hours learning about yoga, chakras, meditation, ayurveda, chanting, reiki, etc., i grew even more open and down to try new things. the transformational process of becoming a yoga teacher was awesome and super special. i cherish that time because it opened my world so spectacularly. i now use natural deodorant and am always telling people how "powerful' essential oils can be. oh, and also, i teach people how to breath and move their bodies in yoga class all the while dreaming about sugar and how i can get paid for watching movies all day, not everything is new...
there are still so many bullet points on my wellness to-do list like acupuncture, an ayurveda consultation and having my charts read. i am making my way though, knocking one off the list last week by going to an energy healing session. a friend of mine who i went through yoga teacher training with began offering energy healing sessions. my experience was completely and utterly fantastic. i feel like my soul was grounded and there was release to help let go and move forward. energy was definitely shifted!
what is energy healing? my friend explains what he offers as energy balancing, chakra health, reiki and intuitive massage. my session included guided movement, guided meditation, pressure point massage, and energy work. but again, what does this all mean??
let me do the research for you.
reiki "is the life energy that flows through all living things. it is a spiritual healing art with its roots in japan. reiki is not affiliated with any particular religion or religious practice. it is not massage. it is a subtle and effective form of energy work using spiritually guided life force energy. " (iarp.org)
chakras are the centers in our bodies in which energy flows through. there are seven: root, sacral, solar plexus, heart, throat, third eye and crown. each chakra is associated with a specific location on the body, color, sound and emotional significance. (mindbodygreen)
pressure point massage is "the technique of locating the trigger points on the body, then gently pressing or stimulating them, to cause them to relax. the gentle pressure of trigger point massage allows the muscle to stop its spasm and release, thus relieving the pain." (healdove)
i don't know what the universe is made of or how my energy vibrates or if i believe in karma or if my soul really looks like a field of blooming peonies like i imagine. i do know that my energy healing session left me with a deep sense of calm and a renewed exuberance for life and i already emailed my friend to book another session. i also believe things work if you believe in them.
and if this all sounds way tooooooo freaky out there for you, i believe in you too! do you! energy healing or not, you are still the best.
